Swiss colostrum – the first milk

What is colostrum?

Swiss food law defines colostrum as follows:

“Colostrum is the secretion produced by the mammary glands of milk-producing mammals under Article 2 letter a for up to five days after giving birth, which is rich in antibodies and minerals and which precedes the production of raw milk.”

FDHA Ordinance on Foodstuffs of Animal Origin (VLtH), Art. 86 para. 1
Unofficial translation; only the official text is legally binding.

What is in our colostrum?
